What is Sculptra®?

Sculptra® is a truly unique injectable product. We call it the “biostimulator” for its ability, quite literally, to stimulate the biological process of collagen production to create an amazing transformation in the skin that lasts 2 years or longer.

Sculptra® has been available worldwide since 1999 and originally was used for the treatment of facial lipoatrophy (facial wasting) for patients with HIV/AIDS. A few years later Sculptra® was FDA approved for cosmetic use for the treatment of deep facial wrinkles and folds, sunken cheeks, temples, under eye area and even neck and hands.

Is Sculptra® safe?

Yes. The main ingredient in Sculptra®, poly-l-lactic acid (PLLA), has been used for more than 20 years in surgical products – including dissolvable stitches – so it’s very safe and well researched. Since Sculptra® does not contain any human or animal components, no allergy testing is needed prior to treatments.

How does Sculptra® work?

Sculptra® comes in a form of dry powder and contains 150 of PLLA per 1 vial. We then use saline water to transform the dry mix into suspension and leave it for at least 2 days to settle. It’s why we take advance payment for your Sculptra® treatments. We then inject Sculptra® into the desired treatment areas on the face using a cannula (blunt needle) – so the discomfort is minimal.

The process takes around 20 minutes. Straight after the treatment you’ll see a swelling that will give you an illusion of an amazing result. But please don’t get too excited and be patient – as this is only water weight. Within 2 days your body absorbs the saline, treated areas deflate back to baseline, and then you’re left (patiently) waiting for the magic to happen. PLLA is like collagen seeds – we mix it with water, spread it evenly under the skin where it’s needed and then we wait for it to take root. Unlike traditional hyaluronic fillers that give an instant result – the full effect of Sculptra® will be visible 2-3 months after your treatment.

Collagen is a protein that is crucial for healthy, young looking skin. Sculptra® stimulates the growth of your own collagen by acting like a scaffolding inside the tissue.

What’s the aftercare?

The aftercare following your Sculptra® treatment is very important. You’ll need to massage the treated area 5 times a day for 5 minutes over 5 days to help spread the PLLA evenly under the skin. Treated areas can feel a little tender, but only for a few days.

How many Sculptra® sessions will I need?

You’ll need to visit us for a minimum of 2 sessions, 5-6 weeks apart. You’ll need to commit to at least 2 sessions to see the full effect of this treatment. In cases of severe volume loss 3-5 sessions can be performed.

How long does it last and what areas can you treat?

Sculptra® is a treatment with serious reward. The results last for 2 years (and sometimes longer.) So, while results are not instant – it’s an incredible treatment for long-term change. Studies show that Sculptra® restores not only facial volume, but the quality of life for many clients. The emotions associated with facial lipoatrophy are often lessened as a result of Sculptra® treatments. Sculptra® can be used to treat:
